Powerbrake X-Line 4WD big brake kits are engineered from the ground up specifically for off-road applications. The X-Line is their ‘civilian’ version, a “direct technology transfer” from the battle-tested R-Line – their race family of brakes proven by podium finishes in the Dakar Rally. This front brake kit is tailored to the 01-07 Toyota Sequoia / 00-06 Toyota Tundra; Powerbrake sizes the calipers to match the size of the factory master cylinder, resulting in improved brake performance and superior pedal feel and modulation. Every kit is designed with factory features in mind and perfectly integrates ABS, EBD, and other stability control systems that your vehicle may be equipped with.
Why does your rig need better brakes? To deal with the extra load. For overlanding, we add campers, larger tires, metal bumpers, long-range fuel tanks, batteries, etc. Then there’s towing. All of this is extra weight, which increases stopping distance and stress on the braking system. Powerbrake kits compensate by adding clamping force and dissipating heat better than factory brakes. The X-Line is a complete BBK, including everything you need for a bolt-on install: 6-piston calipers & brackets, rotors, brake lines, pads, and mounting hardware. PB05 pad compound was chosen for its mix of longevity, stopping power, and fade resistance. Brake lines are Teflon inner-lined and reinforced with braided stainless steel, acting as the muscle of the hose. Brake lines are shrouded in a polymeric outer layer to keep the dirt out.
Most brake kits are developed for road racing, then adapted to 4WD applications. Powerbrake takes the opposite approach: starting with trails in mind, then optimizing for tarmac. Durability and a low profile are part of the design language. All Powerbrake calipers & brackets are machined from billet aluminum, making them stronger than cast. With thoughtful engineering, they offer exceptional wheel-to-caliper clearance for the size. Attention is also put into eliminating failure points: piston seals are recessed into the bores, and internal fluid crossover tubes are used over external ones, both of which reduce the chance of damage from foreign objects – not uncommon when driving through water, mud, or gravel. The pistons & caliper hardware are made of stainless steel, reducing heat transfer from pad to seal.
The X-Line comes standard with 1-piece rotors. These are made of a high-carbon cast iron finished in a proprietary black surface coating. A 48 curved-vane design is used to promote airflow. Rotors feature an “AT” slot pattern for its mix of performance and reduced NVH. All rotors are QC tested before being sent out. Both rotors and calipers come with a maximum temperature recording (MTR) system, giving the user a visual reference of the max temp that each part has seen.
